Waste oil is oil that is no longer useful. This ranges from fuel oil to vegetable oil. This type of fuel mostly gets thrown away. Burn your waste oil and heat your shop by creating a waste oil heater.

Definition

A waste oil heater is a large furnace that burns waste oil and heats your shop. Making your own waste oil heater is a complex process that shouldn't be attempted unless you have a thorough grasp of how to build heating equipment.

Process

You need a large tank to hold the fuel and your instruments. You also need a constant air supply, a preheater, a feed of compressed air, fuel pressure control gauges, temperature gauges and a turbine retention head. Basically, the preheater heats the oil while the compressed air helps it burn more hotly. The temperature gauge turns the heater off when you've hit a desired temperature. Combine these materials anyway you see fit for your shop purposes. Attach it to your heating system via the air ducts, as well as a pipe for venting the fumes.

Advantages

One major advantage of a homemade waste oil burner is getting rid of waste oil. These oils would have been placed into a dump otherwise. You can also help cut your heat bill down. Although the preheater device uses electricity, the oil is, essentially, free compared to normal fuel prices. This is especially true in a large, draughty hard-to-heat shop.
