The Panasonic model SA-AK18 stereo features a radio, dual tape decks and a five-disc CD player. After you set up the stereo, you might experience obstacles with playback, sound distortion and incorrect speaker wiring.

If the left speaker is playing the right audio and vice versa, the speakers cables are connected incorrectly. Flip the latches back on the speaker jacks on the back of the SA-AK18 and pull out the speaker cables. Insert the left red cable into the upper-right jack and the left black cable into the upper-left jack. Insert the right red cable into the lower-right jack, the left black cable into the lower-left jack and close the latches.

If a cassette tape is playing and the sound is scratchy or intermittent, the player heads are dirty. Insert a cleaning tape into the cassette chamber and follow the cleaning tape instructions.

If the message "Take Out/Disc" appears on the display, the unit lost power while the disc was playing. Push the "Power" button to open the tray. Remove the disc from the tray and push "Eject" to close the CD player tray. The system will restore itself.
