The Yanmar 1600 series of compact tractors is manufactured by Yanmar Co. Ltd. The 1600 series is sold in Japan and other countries but not in North America because the 1600 tractors are not compliant with all U.S. tractor safety standards.
Founded in 1912, Yanmar Co. Ltd, headquartered in Osaka, Japan, has been selling tractors in North America since opening Yanmar America in 1979. Yanmar also acts as a John Deere original equipment manufacturer, supplying Deere with Yanmar diesel engines for compact tractors.
Yanmar 1600 Series
The Yanmar 1600 series includes the Yanmar 1601D and 1610D. Either can be bought with an optional front-end loader. The 1601D tractor has four-wheel drive, manual transmission, a three-point hitch and a Yanmar 19.5 horsepower, three-cylinder diesel engine. The 1610D is the 1601D with an automatic transmission.
Yanmar Grey Market
According to a document posted on the legal pages of Yanmar.com, used Yanmar products intended for sale in Japan and other markets are being refurbished, imported into the United States and sold by unauthorised third parties without the consent of the copyright holder (Yanmar). The notice goes on to warn consumers that these "tractors, excavators, wheel loaders and carriers" do not meet U.S. specs and may not be safe.
