Even though Toshiba A300 laptops have been discontinued by the Toshiba Corporation, the device is still popular with many laptop users. In some cases, the machine can still be purchased from various computer outlets which specialise in overstock or used machines. The A300 recovery feature was a selling point regarding the system because of the integrated, user friendly recovery tools to restore the system.

The Toshiba A300 has an integrated recovery feature resident on the system. The recovery feature also includes preventive maintenance tools such as, memory scanner (to locate basic memory problems, disk checker (which performs basic disk maintenance) and backup utility programs.

When the Toshiba A300 shuts down due to a system malfunction, virus or stack overflow problem, the recovery feature can be accessed in safe mode in the Windows operating system. The recovery allows an individual to go to the last backup date and reload programs back unto the system. If a full recovery is needed, Toshiba supplies an original equipment manufacturer disk which restores the complete Windows operating system minus some installed programs.

Expert Insight

Backups are important with any system, the Toshiba A300 is no different. If the A300 is consistently backed up, the need for a full recovery is lessened. When a full recovery is initiated, it recovers the basic Windows operating system only. An external hard drive attached to the A300 can be used as an external recovery source in case of emergency.
