For many goths, the Victorian era marks the touchstone of fashion. While Victorian Gothic styles for women often receive the most attention, men also embrace this fashion period. Male Victorian Gothic fashion involves taking style cues from the Victorian era and tweaking them to fit modern times.

To look the part of a Victorian goth man, look for clothes that are dark-coloured and have something of a mourning look to them. In Victorian times, men's mourning clothes and their daily wear often looked similar to the point that they were interchangeable.

Vests became popular in the Victorian era, paired with crisp dress shirts. Trousers should have a flat front and no creases. Buttons were the style as opposed to clothing with zippers. For coats, look for longer coats, at least knee-length. Frock coats were popular and may be found vintage or in reproduction from Gothic clothing sites.

During the Victorian era, top hats came into use for both formal and daily wear. The hats matched the dark tones of the time, usually coming in black, dark grey or other neutral tones. Other popular accessories include fancy walking sticks, pocket watches and dressy shoes.
