Alienware, a boutique computer manufacturer, builds their computers to the consumer's specifications. Consumers can customise the hardware in their Alienware desktop or laptop computer as well as customise the appearance with wallpaper and an avatar during purchase.

The avatar the customer chooses when customising his Alienware computer is associated with his Microsoft Windows user account. Therefore, he will see it when logging into the computer and when accessing account options through the Windows control panel. In addition to this, Windows 7 displays the user's avatar toward the top of the right panel of the Start menu.

As of December 2010, Alienware offers several options for avatars based on the Alienware logo (A Roswell grey alien head). Avatar choices include, but are not limited to, a silver, three-dimensional (3-D) logo on a black background, a flat, single, coloured version of the alien on a black background or the alien head and the text Alienware on a black background.

Avatars are included in the price of an Alienware computer. However, users can specify the computer not include an avatar. Although the user's Alienware computer will ship with the default avatar, users can change the account image to another image of their choice. Alienware includes all the basic avatars on new computers.
