Corel Draw is a drawing software application that provides users with picture editing as well as drawing capabilities. Several types of effects are available including distress, explode, distortion, chisel, torn edges, bent shadows and cracked objects. Free online tutorials are available at sites such as Corel, Inside Graphics and Web Design Library.

Explode and Distortion Effects

The explode effect creates the illusion as if an object is breaking into several pieces or exploding. The distortion effect helps you transform an object that would otherwise be tedious to create. For example, use the distortion effect to create several petals on a flower without having to draw each one.

Distressed, Chisel and Torn Edges Effects

Using the chisel effect allows you to create a 3-D effect on shapes that appear to be either recessed or raised up. The torn edges effect allows you to create the appearance of torn edges along the edge of a piece of paper as if it is old and weathered. Using the distress effect creates an image that appears weathered and old.

Bent Shadows and Cracked Objects Effects

The bent shadows effect is used to create shadows of objects or characters that appear to bend behind the object. For example, a shadow can be created behind an object that is in front of a wall. Then the shadow appears to bend and appear on the wall behind the object. The cracked object effect is used to create the appearance that an object or text is literally cracking into pieces.
