Dyson DC15 series vacuums were the first to use Dyson's ball design. As of 2010, however, they are no longer sold new by the manufacturer. Dyson still sells replacement parts and will repair DC15 model vacuum cleaners. The manufacturer recommends that vacuum owners perform general maintenance to get the maximum benefit from the appliance. The company cautions owners to only perform maintenance and repairs as described in the owner's manual; other modifications can nullify the Dyson warranty.

Wash the Filter
Dyson DC15 models have a filter located in the top of the canister that should be removed and washed regularly. The manufacturer recommends cleaning the filter at least once every six months using a mild soap and water. Allow the filter to completely dry before returning it to the vacuum. The filter should not be cleaned with a commercial detergent or put in the dishwasher.
Clean the Bin
Clean the debris bin regularly as well to keep the Dyson vacuum in prime condition. Press the release button to remove the bin from the vacuum body and wipe it clean with a damp cloth. The top of the bin can also be removed for easier cleaning. Dyson cautions not to immerse the clear bin or clean it with detergents, polishes or air fresheners.
Clear Clogs and Blockages
Keep the Dyson DC15 running smoothly by regularly checking the hoses for debris and clogs. Blockages in the hoses will cause the vacuum to not run as well. Detach hoses and look inside for debris. Lay the vacuum on the floor and remove debris from the brushbar with scissors.
