Carry-On Baggage
Delta allows passengers to carry on one small bag and one personal item at no charge. Personal bags must fit in the airplane overhead bin or under the seat. The airline charges a fee and checks baggage too large for overhead bins.
Checked Baggage
Delta requires that checked luggage must not exceed 50 pounds or 62 inches in width and height. Additional fees apply when baggage exceeds requirements. Checked baggage rates vary by flight destination. As of 2010, for travel within the United States, the airline charges $23 for first checked bag and $32 for the second checked bag.
Baggage Problems
Delta requires passengers to fill out a form verifying delayed, lost, stolen or damaged baggage details. All claims are evaluated by Delta's customer service division. As of 2010, Delta offers passengers compensation for delayed baggage in the amount of $50 for the first day and $25 per day for up to four days.
