Hotel housekeepers are responsible for cleaning hallways, guest rooms and the lobby. Job responsibilities may include washing bed linens and towels, folding linens, disinfecting rooms and ensuring that each room is fully stocked. The salary for this position is typically an hourly rate of pay.

Average Salary

According to PayScale, the hourly rate for hotel housekeepers is £4.90 to £6.30. Cbsalary, a site maintained by Career Builder, states that the average salary for hotel housekeepers in the United States is £16,718 per year, which is slightly higher than the income reported by PayScale.

Top Employers

PayScale rates the top employers of hotel housekeepers, with Marriott International, Inc., Hilton Hotels Corporation and Hampton Inn in the top positions. The Marriott chain has the highest salary, with a top pay level of over £7 per hour.

Hotel housekeepers also earn tips from guests, for their work in the hotel. This isn’t typically included in the salary rate, as the amount of tip varies from week to week. Good Housekeeping recommends leaving a tip of £1.30 to £3 per day, however, the amount of a tip is the personal decision of each hotel guest.
