Why does my computer chirp like a cricket?
Computer speakers can cause chirping sounds. (computer speakers image by sarit saliman from Fotolia.com)

Occasionally a computer may make a sound like a cricket chirping that continues incessantly. The sound is caused by a sound alert stuck on a loop within the speaker. It is a surprisingly easy fix.

The most common cause of a continuous chirping noise is a speaker issue. If you have little experience with computers, it is a good idea to take it in to a local computer store and allow them to verify the problem first.

Fixing the problem is very simple. You are going to restore the system back to its original settings. Click "Start," then "Programs," "Accessories," "System Tools" then "System Restore." This will not cause you to lose programs. It simply resets the basic settings to the standard the computer comes with. You can readjust them to fit personal preference later.

Software security programs sometimes block a system restore. To avoid this, simply disable your antivirus protection software before completing a system restore. Enable it once the system is fully restored.
