What are Pred Forte Eye Drops?

According to the Monthly Prescribing Reference, Pred Forte, or Prednisolone acetate 1 per cent, is a treatment for ocular inflammation and it contains benzalkonium chloride and sulphites.

Why is it used?

Prednisolone is a powerful steroid that is most typically used for inflammation of the eye.

If your cat has a fungal situation in his eye that is displaying signs of inflammation, Pred Forte may actually worsen the situation. Be sure to have your cat checked by a licensed vet to insure proper treatment.


Typically, your cat should be given two drops every hour for the first 24 to 48 hours. Prolonged dosing should include 1 to 2 drops two to four times daily.

Side Effects

Like all medications, this too carries it with it a chance to exacerbate an already present infection; as previously mentioned, speaking to your vet prior to placing your feline on this medication is vital.

Continue to follow up with the vet during treatment, and call if the symptoms worsen.
