The bold appearance of label text is immediately identifiable. The embossed plastic and the contrast between letter and background gives label text aesthetic appeal, in addition to its many utilitarian applications. The label-maker effect adds to Photoshop’s typographical possibilities.

Label-Maker Fonts

Create the label-maker effect in Photoshop with a label-maker font. Once downloaded and placed in the computer's “Fonts” folder, the label-maker font is opened with the Text tool in Photoshop.

Label-Maker Brushes

The label-maker effect can also be achieved in Photoshop with custom brushes. Photoshop brushes come in .abr file format. Once installed in the Adobe “Brushes” folder, they can be accessed with Photoshop’s brushes palette.

Label Makers

The label-maker effect replicates the look of plastic adhesive tape containing raised letters printed with an embossing machine. Most label makers are hand-held and widely available at craft and office supply stores. Characters are selected from a rotating wheel, and pressed up through the plastic, creating raised, white text.
