Miniature schnauzers require regular grooming to maintain their classic coat shape, but the schnauzer's handsome appearance and friendly disposition are well worth the effort. If a schnauzer is prone to ear infections, groomers should pluck out dirty hairs and administer ear wash as part of the grooming process to decrease the probability of future contamination. Holding a schnauzer's ears down will simplify the procedure.

Things you need
- Surgical tape
Cut off the feet of a sock and cut two holes on opposite sides, near the end. The holes should be about the same diameter as the schnauzer's ear canal.
Hold the schnauzer's ears together on top of the head and tape them flat with surgical tape. If the schnauzer has cropped ears, this step may not be necessary.
Pull the sock over the dog's muzzle and back to where the secured ears are so that the cut holes expose the ear canal while holding the ears down. The schnauzer's eyes, nose and mouth should be exposed as well.
