Behaviour specialists frequently work with social workers, teachers and students' families to review children's behavioural issues and limitations.

Psycholigical Development

School behaviour specialists typically work under the direction of the special programs department. This area of the educational realm revolves around not only the students' educational needs, but also their psychological and social development.

Diagnostic Testing

Diagnostic testing is an integral part of the school behavioural specialist's duties. Before developing a realistic behaviour management plan, the cognitive, social and even medical needs of the student must be assessed.

Plan Development

Once the task of creating a baseline of behaviour and intelligence is completed, the behaviour specialist can create an independent educational plan, or IEP, for the student. Coordination between the student's teachers, parents and school principal is required for successful implementation of the plan.

Evaluate Progress

After the IEP is instituted, scheduled meetings with the student, teacher and parents are needed for feedback and recording of progress. Goals or milestones must be achieved during specific phases of the student's plan. The plan must be reviewed at regular intervals, and a meeting must be held at least once a year to evaluate the student's progress.
