Certification for the Latin dance-inspired fitness program Zumba is initiated at the program's official website and concludes with the successful completion of a Zumba training workshop.
Beyond the need for instructors to be physically able to perform the exercise routines, few prerequisites exist to become a Zumba teacher. Zumba generally requires prospective instructors to be 18 or older, although according to their website, they sometimes make exceptions.
Locating a Workshop
The first step to Zumba teacher certification is to locate a nearby workshop for either "Zumba Basic Steps Level 1" or "Zumba Gold" by navigating to the Instructor Training tab on the Zumba.com website. These two courses are the only entry-level Zumba certifications.
Successful completion of the daylong workshop culminates with a certificate of completion that allows the instructor to teach Zumba for one year. In addition to hands-on instruction, the workshop provides attendees with instruction manuals, DVDs and exercise soundtrack CDs.
The entry-level certification courses cost £146-$285 each, the lower fee offered for early registration. This fee pays for the workshop, materials and a one-year certification.
Zumba also offers the training workshops "Toning," "Aqua" and "Zumbatomic," which are only available to current Zumba instructors who are paying members of the Zumba Instructors Network. Registration for the "Basic 2" workshop does not require Zumba Instructors Network membership.
