When the adrenal gland and the thyroid begin to show signs of malfunction it can lead to sluggishness, exhaustion and serious weight gain or weight loss. In some cases it may be wise or even necessary to take supplements in order to improve the function of the adrenal and thyroid. Both can be improved by using the same basic supplements.

B Vitamins

B vitamins help improve adrenal and thyroid function. B5 is especially helpful, but the entire B-complex is vital to proper adrenal and thyroid health.

Amino Acids

Amino acids, such as those found in hydrolyzed collagen, can help improve the function of the adrenal and thyroid as well. Free form amino acids should be taken in doses of one to two teaspoons daily, whereas hydrolyzed collagen can be taken at 10 grams a day.

Connective tissue plays a part in proper adrenal function. Proline can help to restore this connective tissue.

Fatty Acids

Fatty acids, such as those found in fish oil and omega-3, are essential, along with amino acids, for adrenal and thyroid health. Since your body can't produce essential fatty acids on its own, it is especially important to ingest in one form or another.

Zinc helps the thyroid to release hormones in the hypothalamus, thus allowing the thyroid to perform at an optimal level.

Vitamins D & C

Vitamins D and C, especially when taken in conjunction with one another, are helpful especially to the thyroid.
