Owners of dogs suffering from acute or recurrent ear yeast infections may be happy to learn that there is an effective ear product that does not contain any steroids and that is available over the counter. This effective product, known as Zymox Otic, has shown to be effective against viral, bacterial and yeast ear infections.

Zymox otic solution presents in two different formulations. One version comes with hydrocortisone (a strong anti-inflammatory product) and one comes without it.

Zymox otic contains three powerful enzymes: lactoperoxidase, lysozyme and lactoferrin. The formula with hydrocortisone provides anti-inflammatory relief for ears that are itchy, swollen and inflammed.

Time Frame

Dogs suffering from acute ear infections require once a day applications for seven days, while those suffering from chronic ear infections benefit from once a day applications for 14 days.

The solution is instilled into the ear allowing it to fill the ear canal and it is then massaged to ensure absorption. The dog should then be allowed to shake its head to remove any excess product.

Zymox is effective against ear yeast infections in dogs without causing any side effects. In order to work well it must not be used along other topical ear medications.
