- Never leave your chopsticks standing in your rice, because this practice is reserved to honor the dead. Don't wave your chopsticks or use them to make noise.
- Community bowls are often set at the table. Never reach into one of these with your own chopsticks for health and safety reasons.
- Regardless of how much food you order, make sure that you order an even number of bowls or platters. It is considered unlucky to order an uneven number, a practice used only after a funeral.
- You don't exactly have to clean your plate. But out of respect for the host, you should at least try everything set on the table. To do otherwise is a serious offense.
- When eating fish, you should never turn it upside down to start on the other side. Instead, simply remove the bones and set them aside before continuing to eat the rest. Turning it over resembles a capsized boat and is considered bad luck.
