People and cultures throughout history placed value on which finger a ring is worn. Silver has always been a symbol of fortitude. A silver thumb ring is a special ring that brings attention to the thumb and may signify strength, resolve and courage.

Centuries ago women wore their husbands' wedding rings on their thumbs after their husband died or left for battle.

In Europe people wore thumb rings to show the profession one had. Their guild may have had a special thumb ring as well. In Chinese history, the military used thumb rings to show ranking. The bigger his ring, the higher the rank the officer served.

Today thumb rings are now just a way to adorn the thumb for fashion's sake. A thumb ring can be of a simple design or it can be quite ornate.

In palmistry, the thumb symbolises willpower and freethinking. Wearing a thumb rings, is an attempt to show your independence and individuality.

Wearing a ring on the left thumb may signify the subconscious or instincts and beliefs, while wearing it on the right thumb reflects the conscious, logic and awareness. More recently, a ring on right thumb means one is into same sex relationships.
