Hair may be implanted surgically for those who have thinning hair, and there are many chemical products to encourage hair growth. Although nothing grows hair, many people look to natural options such as cayenne pepper for help in building thicker hair.

In the 1800s, Samuel Thompson, the founder of Herbal Life, considered cayenne pepper to be the second best remedy for various ailments among all the products he sold.

Primary Active Ingredient

Capsaicin is the primary ingredient found in cayenne pepper.

Cayenne pepper increases blood flow to the scalp. The increased blood flow strengthens hair follicles, which results in stronger hair roots--ultimately leading to thicker, healthier hair.

The formula calls for mixing 2 tsp cayenne pepper with 2 tbsp coconut or olive oil, rubbing the mixture into the scalp--particularly in areas where hair loss is prevalent--and leaving it on for 20 to 30 minutes before rinsing thoroughly.

Cayenne pepper burns sensitive areas, including eyes and noses. It's advised that after handling cayenne pepper, users wash hands with soap and water.
