You may have heard about the need to get your body more alkaline to ensure better health, and alkaline water is one of the products designed to do that. Alkaline water promotes health by countering the negative effects of too much acidic food and drinks common in a modern diet.

Alkaline water is one of the earliest forms of bottled water, having come about from people bottling water at healing springs and wells to drink later. Now some of it is produced through a water ioniser.

Drinking alkaline water everyday could help counter the negative effects of too much acidic food, drink and general toxic living common in western industrialised nations.

Alkaline water is measured by its pH. You can drink water with a measured pH of between 7.5 and 9.5, with 9.5 being the most desirable to put your body into balance.

The antioxidant properties of ionised water are lost quickly after bottling, so only the alkalinity remains. According to Dr. Gabe Mirkin, drinking alkaline water will not affect your blood pH reading of 7.365.

Dr. T.A. Baroody in "Alkalize or Die" claims that consuming acid food and drinks hurt the kidneys, heart and colon. Chemist Stephen Lower claims that any effects of drinking alkaline water would be mitigated by your stomach acid.
