Saddle up your horse and ride into the party in style wearing your country western costume. While a horse is not necessary, it is fitting for a country western theme. Show off your creativity through a western costume by dressing appropriately. According to Rob Pudim from High Country News, there is a difference between dressing western and dressing like a cowboy; therefore, make sure you dress correctly for your costume party.

Country Western Man

Dress the part of a typical country western man by wearing the appropriate clothing. Pick a plaid, striped or solid button-down shirt with pearl buttons instead of traditional buttons. Tuck the shirt into a fitted pair of Wrangler jeans that are slightly too long so they gather around your ankle. Longer jeans are helpful when riding a horse so when you sit on the saddle, your jeans are the perfect length over your boots. Purchase a pair of boots made of ostrich, eel, elephant or snake skin; however, if those materials are too expensive, a cheap pair of boots will do for the costume. Place a belt around your waist with a large belt buckle and a black hat on your head.

Western Gunman Costume

Look for inspiration from one of Clint Eastwood's Western movies and dress like a gunman. Wear a pair of fitted wranglers and a button-down or long-sleeve shirt. The shirt will be hidden underneath the large, knitted poncho you will be wearing. Under the poncho wear a waist holster with a water gun. Finish the costume with brown cowboy boots and a brown suede hat.

Saloon Girl

Show off your legs as a western saloon gal. Saloon gals liked to show skin in body-hugging dresses that fit like a glove. Re-create the look by wearing a strapless dress in red or black that hits just above the knee. The dress should be fitted at the top like a corset and flare out near the waist to the hemline. If the dress does not flare out on its own, then wear a tulle or lace underpinning that gives the skirt body. Wear a garter belt that will hold up fishnet stockings and wear heels on your feet. Accessorise your outfit with coordinating jewellery and a headband with feather accents.

Western Woman Costume

Dress up the part of a western woman by wearing an embroidered, long-sleeve button-up shirt. Western women typically had detailing on their shoulders, around the collarbone and down the back of the shirt. Pair the shirt with a pair of Wrangler straight-leg jeans, or khaki trousers and cowboy boots. Accessorise the look with a belt and buckle that contains a little sparkle, a black or brown hat and a leather jacket with fringe
