Silicone Lubricant and Teflon

Many treadmills require lubrication at least once per year. Lubricant helps to reduce wear and tear and extend the life of your equipment. Silicone lubricant is the most commonly used lubricant and comes either in a spray can or as a liquid. Teflon is a DuPont lubrication that comes in a silicone variety.

Wax Lubricant

Some treadmills require wax lubricant as opposed to silicone. Using the wrong variety of lubricant can damage your treadmill and do more harm than good. You are better off not lubricating your equipment than lubricating it with the wrong substance. Some treadmills, such as those produced by LifeSpan, use a wax and silicone blend, where relubricating with 100 per cent silicone is acceptable.

Bottom Line

Silicone lubricants, including Teflon, are the most commonly used lubricants for treadmills. However, some equipment may use wax-based lubricant. You should consult your owner's manual or the manufacturer to determine how to best care for your treadmill.
