A marketing communications manager keeps company employees informed of company events or updates, service opportunities, and upcoming product releases. The manager also edits communications and strategic sales proposals and plans created by internal company staff.

People Management

Recruiting, hiring, training, and developing staff is another duty of the marketing communications manager along with communicating job expectations, assigning workflow, and appraising each employee’s job performance. Preparing and maintaining an annual marketing operations budget is also an important task of those in this position.


To fulfil her duties, a marketing communications manager needs excellent written and verbal communications skills along with copyediting experience. Also required are marketing, advertising, and media experience, particularly in the area of social media. People management skills such as coaching, motivating, and leadership are necessary to effectively lead staff. Relational skills are required to successfully work with clients, vendors, and staff from other areas of the company.
