StyleWriter claims to "improve your writing style instantly" because the software checks text for several writer's styles and usage errors. The maker of StyleWriter reports that professional editors, writers, journalists and tutors designed the software. StyleWriter will review text in Microsoft Word and Corel WordPerfect. The software trims unnecessary and excess words, simplifies and clarifies. It also allows you to look at your text through the eyes of an editor. By encouraging shorter sentences and active verbs, StyleWriter forces users to change their writing style into a style acceptable in the classroom, business and other written papers and documents. The software also allows the use to keep an archive of your improved writing skills.

RightWriter grammar software includes in its package an advanced spell, syntax, grammar and writing checker. The software is compatible with Word, OpenOffice, WordPerfect, WordPress and any other text document. RightWrite checks more than 25,000 writing errors and more than 5,000 grammar rules, such as subject-verb agreement, redundancy, wordiness, ambiguity, split infinitive, run-on sentences and long sentences.

An especially useful aspect of RightWriter is that it identifies correctly spelt words that are misused, a feature many other grammar software programs omitted. The software also provides information on the number of words, the number of words per sentence, descriptive words and words to review and why. Users of RightWriter have the option to choose their style of writing prior to review. The styles available are business/general, technical/report writing and fiction.

Grammarly, like most other grammar software, checks spelling, punctuation, grammar and structure. Unlike most of the others, however, Grammarly checks documents for plagiarism. The Grammarly software provides word-enrichment suggestions and identifies correctly spelt words that are incorrectly used. In order to use Grammarly, you must copy and paste within the Grammarly program. The program list the errors found and the number of errors within the particular subject. The program highlights the areas for quick review. Users get a detail report that covers contextual spelling, punctuation, grammar, citation for possible plagiarism, and style and word choice.
