Transmission Problems

Numerous owners have reported problems with the advanced CVT transmission of the Audi 1.8 Cabriolet. In some cases the transmission had to be replaced with as few as 50,000 miles on the car.

Speed Sensor Problem

Another commonly reported problem with the Audi 1.8L Cabriolet is a faulty speed sensor which makes the speedometer not work. The speed sensor can be accessed and easily replaced by lifting the car with a jack. The speed sensor is located on the rear transaxle and there is only one bolt to remove.

Timing Chain Tensioner

A significant number of problems have been reported with timing chain tensioner failure on the Audi 1.8L Cabriolet. When this component fails, engine and starting problems can result.
