Ukraine Adoption Agencies

Ukraine is a former Soviet Union state that is now independent. It is located in south-central Europe and borders ten countries, Russia being the largest. Ukraine's natural resources include oil, gas, coal and iron. As many as 150,000 children are orphaned in Ukraine. Most of these children are housed in orphanages. Boys are more readily available for adoption than girls.

  1. Country Requirements

    • Prospective parents wanting to adopt from the Ukraine must be at least 21 years of age. There must be at least a 15-year difference between the age of the parent and the age of the child when adopted. Parents can be no more than 45 years older than the child that is being adopted. Parents with felony records are not allowed to adopt from this country. Ukraine has no parent age limit on adoption, however your adoption agency might. The Ukrainian government does not impose income requirements on prospective adoptive families although some adoption agencies do. Parents choose their children in the Ukraine. Two trips to the Ukraine may be required for you to complete your adoption.

    America World Adoption

    • America World Adoption is a faith-based agency founded in 1993. The agency requires prospective families to submit a statement of Christian faith before they start the adoption process. America World Adoption requires that a family earns $10,000 a year per family member. This includes the child that will be adopted.

    Wide Horizons for Children

    • Wide Horizons for Children was founded in 1974 and says it has placed 11,000 children since. This agency offers camps and cultural and educational events the agency says will help you and your child adjust to living in a multicultural home. This agency offers financial assistance and information on general adoption funding. This agency does not require specific yearly income to qualify for adoption.

    ABC (Adoption of Babies and Children)

    • ABC is a faith-based adoption agency that places children in Christian or Jewish homes. Families are required to take a CPR class in preparation for their adoption. The agency is cautious about placing children with families with smokers in the home. The agency was founded in 1994.

    Adoption Ark

    • This agency has offices in three states: Illinois, California, and Texas. Adoption Ark offers counseling before and after the adoption. Adoption Ark works with a travel agency to reduce travel expenses for families adopting overseas. While in the Ukraine, you will be assisted by local agents of Adoption Ark.
