Publishing companies specialising in science fiction, romance, fantasy, and short stories are always looking for new authors. With a little due diligence, finding a publisher specific to your genre and writing style is an e-mail click away. Although not an exhaustive list, publishing companies accepting new authors for writing fiction include HarperCollins, i.e. Best ebooks, Random House, Simon & Schuster and Penguin.

HarperCollins

HarperCollins is accepting new Avon romance fiction writers. Avon romance genres include historical romance, erotica, paranormal romance, African-American romance and contemporary romance. According to HarperCollines guidelines, the average word count for your manuscript submission should be between 60,000 to 100,000 words. Star Trek manuscripts should be around 100,000 words, and Simon & Schuster encourages the author to focus on the internal thoughts (point of view) of the character. Furthermore, Simon & Schuster submission guidelines goes on to mention that first-person point of view manuscripts will be reviewed and considered on a case-by-case basis.

Penguin

According to Penguin Group, Daw Books is looking for science fiction and fantasy writers. Daw Books submission guidelines indicate an author's manuscripts should be more, not less, than 80,000 words. Moreover, Daw Books' decision response time with an author's submission may take up to a 3 months.
