Foot itch can be a distracting and uncomfortable condition. Itching feet can be caused by different things, such as dryness, fungus or irritation. Depending on the cause of the itchiness, different remedies have soothing effects.

Topical treatments

Sprinkle anti-fungal powder directly onto your feet and in your shoes twice a day. Alternatively, soak your feet in a solution of 235 ml (1 cup) of baking soda and 5-10 litres (1-2 gallons) of warm water. After soaking for about 10 minutes, dry your feet thoroughly. The baking soda solution can inhibit or kill fungus growth. Apply lotion or petroleum jelly to the feet if they are extremely dry. Dryness can be a cause of itching.

Foot care

Try wearing different socks. Acrylic socks can keep moisture away from feet better than cotton socks. White socks can provide relief, as the dyes in coloured socks can lead to irritation. Dry your feet thoroughly after a shower or bath. Use a hair dryer to make sure the area between the toes is completely dry. Moisture on feet can lead to fungus.

Medication

Antihistamines can soothe itching on all parts of the body, including feet. Take them as directed on the package. For certain skin conditions, a doctor may prescribe antibiotics.
