About Lawn Care Businesses

A lawn care business is a hot, dusty and dirty business, especially if the lawn care business focuses on extensive landscaping. The minimum work a lawn care business does is mowing, weed eating and edging lawns. Often, the owner of the lawn care business works alongside his helpers, unless the business is a large business with many commercial accounts.

    Function

  1. Whether large or small, the lawn care business will take care of your lawn. Along with mowing and general care of the lawn, the lawn care business will fertilize the lawn and plants, prune plants and trees and may even plant trees, shrubs and flowers under the homeowner's direction.
  2. Types

  3. There are two main types of lawn care businesses. The small neighborhood lawn care business usually consists of the owner and a helper. The business owns a truck, trailer, lawn mower (usually a riding mower, but not a high dollar mower), shovels, rakes, blowers, edgers and weed eaters. A small lawn care business does not usually have commercial accounts, though it is not unheard of if it can fill the commercial account's needs.

The larger lawn care business will have several people working for it. It usually provides trucks and trailers with all the necessary equipment for its employees. Some large lawn care businesses may require the employee to supply his own truck and trailer, but may reimburse the employee for mileage. The mowers used for a large business are high-dollar commercial mowers, but the other equipment such as hand tools, blowers, edgers and weed eaters are the same that a small lawn care business would use. Larger lawn care businesses will also provide landscaping services for the commercial account or the homeowner.
  4. Geography

  5. Lawn care businesses are all over the world, but during the winter months, business can slow down quite a bit. Instead of going to an account once a week, the lawn care business may only have to go to an account once a month. In areas with cold winters, the lawn care business may not have any work during the winter months. In tropical areas, lawn care businesses will stay busy year-round.
  6. Effects

  7. Hiring a professional lawn care business to keep up your lawn gives you the freedom on the weekends to do other things. It also allows the homeowner to have someone with professional horticulture knowledge to keep plants, trees and grass looking fresh and green, as he will know what type of fertilizers to use and how much to water different plants. A lawn care business keeps the homeowner's lawn looking neat and professional.
  8. Considerations

  9. While hiring a lawn care business frees the homeowner from doing the work, it does cost money. Always check around with different lawn care businesses to make sure that your choice can provide the level of lawn care you are requesting for a reasonable amount of money. Cheaper is not always better. If you require professional horticulture experience, check references and schooling of the lawn care worker.
